Gus Castellanos

Mini Biography:

Agustin (Gus) Castellanos, M.D. attended the University of Miami undergraduate and Medical School, receiving his M.D. degree in 1980. He trained at Emory University School of Medicine, Georgetown University School of Medicine, and University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He received Board Certification in Neurology in 1987 and in Sleep Medicine in 1994. He was Assistant Professor in Neuro-Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center before relocating to practice Neurology & Sleep Medicine in Palm Beach County, Fl, in 1987. During his medical career, Dr Castellanos served as Medical Director of The Sleep Center, Jupiter Medical Center, President of the Florida Society of Neurology, Chief of Neurology at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, and as Co-Director of Jupiter Medical Center’s Stroke Center. He founded and served as Medical Director of Carelink Clinic, Founder A.W.A.K.E. Sleep Apnea Support Group, Palm Beach County. He retired from the practice of Medicine in Jan. 2007 to pursue meditation and metaphysical studies. Dr Castellanos is a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) & Mindfulness Based Attention Training (MBAT) facilitator, and mindfulness coach and mindfulness meditation practitioner. He is trained by the University of Massachusetts Medical School Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society. He is a contributor and trainer with the University of Miami NeuroScience (Jha) Lab's M.B.A.T. program. He currently teaches at a variety of facilities and venues throughout South Florida, including the Sari Asher Center for Integrative Cancer Care, University of Miami Medical School's UHealth Fitness and Wellness Center, The Wellness Center at Ultima Fitness, and the University of Miami Neuroscience Lab (the Jha Lab). He has facilitated programs for the Miami Dade Fire Rescue, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Employee Fund, US Army, Hospice of Palm Beach County, Jupiter Medical Center, The Mindful Path, the Hanley Center Treatment Center, A New Day Treatment Center and South Bay Correctional Facility. Currently he serves as advisor to Integrative Medicine Department at Jupiter Medical Center and UMass CFM's outreach MBSR program at Jupiter Medical Centerand is involved in mindfulness research with the Mindfulness Based Attention Training program at the Jha Lab- University of Miami Neuroscience Lab.
