Welcome:  

SFCCC Co-Chairs, Dr. Marie Etienne and Maray Salina welcomed the members to the quarterly meeting.  Members were asked to state their name, organization, and workgroup.

 

Work Group Updates:

SFCCC Workgroup updates were provided are as follows:

 

Synergy and Networking/Membership Workgroup

The Synergy and Networking/Membership Work Group will provide an update at the next Quarterly Meeting.

 

Risk Reduction Workgroup

The Risk Reduction Work Group leader Dinah Trevil provided the workgroup update. The Risk Reduction work group discussed implementing a series of webinars focused on alcohol & smoking cessation, and the adverse effects of sedentary lifestyles. The workgroup will also strive to increase participation from nurses and nurse navigators, since they play an essential role in patient care. Workgroup members are also researching speaking engagement opportunities with nursing and medical school programs to teach students about the importance of Compassionate Care.

Disparities Workgroup

The Disparities Workgroup will provide an update at the next Quarterly Meeting.

Survivorship and Quality of Life Workgroup

The Survivorship & Quality of Life Workgroup will provide an update at the next Quarterly Meeting.

New Business:

​

2020-2025 Strategic Plan

Members reviewed and discussed the 2020-2025 Florida Cancer Plan. Members discussed each goal and objective and provided feedback on the priority areas for the Southeast Region. Of the 2020-2025 Florida Cancer Plan, the Collaborative selected the following goals:

​

  1. Goal 1: Maximize cancer control resources by increasing collaboration among Florida cancer control stakeholders.

  2. Goal 3: Reduce the incidence and mortality from tobacco-related cancers in all Floridians.

  3. Goal 4: Eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem in Florida by increasing vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV).

  4. Goal 5: Decrease the incidence of skin cancer in all Floridians by reducing exposure to natural and artificial sources of ultraviolet (UV) light.

  5. Goal 8: Reduce the risk of cancer in all Floridians through maintenance of healthy body weights, physical activity, and healthful diets.

  6. Goal 10: Reduce lung cancer mortality through early detection of lung cancer in Floridians.

  7. Goal 11: Reduce breast cancer mortality through early detection of breast cancer in Floridians.

  8. Goal 12: Reduce colorectal cancer mortality through early detection of colorectal cancer in Floridians.

  9. Goal 13: Reduce prostate cancer mortality in Florida men through early detection of advanced disease.

  10. Goal 16: Achieve excellent quality of life for all Floridians with cancer and their caregivers from Day 1 of diagnosis, during treatment, and after treatment.

  11. Goal 17: Achieve high-quality survival of all Floridians with history of cancer.

Community Involvement Plan and Data

  1. The SFCCC Co-Chairs encouraged workgroups to create more streamlined action plans for attaining the new goals selected.

Meeting adjourned at 12:00 p.m.  The next SFCCC Quarterly Meeting will take place in September.
